HEMINGBROUGH are celebrating a York Vale Cricket League cup double.

While their first team won the Mitchell Sports Cup by beating Kelfield at Hemingbrough, the club’s seconds lifted the President’s Cup at Pocklington.

The Mitchell final saw Hemingbrough recover from 81-5 to finish on 226-7. Key men were Gary Wilson, who put together a sound 85, and a slick unbeaten 66 by Paul Van Dijk which pulled them out of trouble.

The pick of Kelfield’s attack were Matt Walker (3-37) and Phil Smith (3-57).

Opener Andy Charlton led Kelfield’s reply, carrying his bat for an super unbeaten 103, but lacked meaningful support.

Wickets fell regularly until Aaron Marshall wrapped up the tail with 5-27 as Kelfield were bowled out for 190.

It was much more one-sided in the President’s final where Askham Bryan II’s batting failed as they plunged to a 134-run defeat.

Askham started well enough as Tom Jaros took two wickets in three balls to remove Ben Lister and John Cockerill for ducks. But from 7-2, the damage was repaired by Simon Shaw (63) and John Lister (56) with a 100-plus partnership.

Rob Peet (49) then propelled Hemingbrough to 206-5 with big hitting.

Askham’s reply never got going as Peet and Granville North, bowling in tandem, tore through the card. Peet took 4-8 while North, who grabbed a wicket in his first over, claimed 4-24 as Askham were bowled out for 72.
