BIG-HITTING Nasar Mahmood has blasted his way into the HPH York Vale Cricket League record books.

The Selby II opener smashed 217 against Thorpe Willoughby II – the league’s highest individual score.

The 28-year-old, who only joined the Sandhill Lane outfit last month, rode his luck, being dropped several times, but raced on to set a new league best with 27 boundaries and 13 sixes.

His assault overhauled the unbeaten 211 scored by Matty Clark for Hemingbrough against Clifton Alliance in division one in August 2011. Coincidentally, Clark now plays for Selby in the York and District Senior League.

Mahmood’s blitz propelled Selby to 303-7, the highest team score in the Vale set-up this summer. However, it ultimately led to nothing as rain prevented division five opponents Thorpe from starting their reply.

Although heavy downpours ruined the vast majority of the day’s programme, there were several other brilliant individual performances.

Malcolm Harrison produced staggering bowling figures of 10.1-4-8-7 as division three leaders Melbourne crushed Malton & Old Malton by ten wickets.

Harrison’s heroics saw Malt plunge from 90-2 to 122 all out, leaving Oliver Steels (68no) and Tim Blackmore (39no) to knock off the runs.

Amazingly, all matches in division three were played to a conclusion with the teams playing reduced-overs games.

Acomb lost at South Cave & Brantingham despite a rapid 73 not out by Adam Stroughair. Elliott Newby (69) was caught off the last ball of Pocklington’s innings against in-form Stillingfleet, who sped to a six-wicket win thanks to Phil Corfield (46) and an unbeaten 38 by Jonny Wright.

Ovington II bowler Dick Buckley went for 17 in his first over but recovered to take 5-37 in the win against Goole Town.

The only other completed match was in division four where Bishopthorpe II won at Burn, Charlie Featherstone (5-38) taking his first ‘five-for’. A stand of 110 between Stuart Watson (72no) and Jonny Trumble (32no) got Bishops home five minutes before the heavens opened.

Luke Mitchell took 6-32 in ten overs for Askham Bryan II in their curtailed game at Stockton & Hopgrove II.

Abandonments meant there was no change in division one where leaders Ovington had a tricky run chase on their hands at Burn who made 188-2 from 40 overs thanks to a second-wicket stand of 132 between Ray Adamson (89no) and Ed Clark (67).

Bishopthorpe were 57-3 after 14 overs in pursuit of North Cave’s 153-5 which featured good knocks from Mark Woodall (45no), Mike Stellings (34) and Rob Page (32).

Kelfield’s Matt Walker blasted an unbeaten 52 from 34 deliveries at Hirst Courtney, while Mark Grewer took 6-48 as Askham Bryan bowled out Fulfordgate for 143 and Stockton & Hopgrove’s Matt Bradshaw claimed 5-35 against Hemingbrough.

All points were also shared in division two where the stand-out performance was Jamie Agnew’s 107 for Ben Johnson against Selby, an innings which featured 11 fours and four sixes. Spinner Meg Jones took 4-46 for Selby who were 21-4 chasing BJ’s 153 when the rain fell.
