YORK Vale cricket stars of the past rolled back the years in a game to mark the league’s 80th anniversary.
The Vale Legends took on a Sponsors XI at Clifton Alliance, heavy rain seeing the game abandoned as a draw.
The Legends openers, Geoff Deighton (Bishopthorpe) and Tony Kerrison (Stockton & Hopgrove), had a combined age of more than 150, while Selby MP Nigel Adams, a former Vale League representative player, top-scored with 38. Neil Atkinson (Kelfield) and Steve Fraser (Stockton & Hopgrove) both made 33 as the Legends made 196-6 from their 40 overs.
The sponsors had reached 56-3 after 13 overs when the heavens opened.
