PART-TIME seamer Ross Kelly was promoted by Bishopthorpe to open the bowling and the switch paid big dividends.

He took 5-27 as Fulfordgate, last season’s HPH York Vale Cricket League division two champions, were bowled out for 61.

Kelly then opened the innings but was out for a first-over duck – the only wicket to fall in a comprehensive Bish win.

Barry Steel was another bowler on top form, all his Askham Bryan victims being bowled in his 5-28 to set up Ovington’s win.

Hemingbrough’s Luke Allderidge notched 71 but his side slipped from 120-2 to 148 all out as Mark Alford took 5-49 for Hirst Courtney.

However, it proved enough as Layton Hallam (4-15) and Ricky Noble (3-27) skittled Hirst for 75.

There were two outstanding individual performances in Stockton & Hopgrove’s victory against Burn.

Giles Smith smashed 134 as Burn’s bowlers conceded 116 runs from the last ten overs as Stockton piled up 269-8.

Burn’s openers had 87 on the board before the introduction of Chris Fryer changed the game. His analysis of 11-3-27-7 saw Burn all out for 173.

North Cave’s Mike Stellings was stumped for 99 as the champions beat Kelfield, whose Phil Smith (59) and Neil Atkinson (54) scored half-centuries, by 46 runs.

Strength in depth batting saw York RI amass 302-5 in a 225-run mauling of a young weakened Westow in division two. Phil Holland (60) shared a fourth-wicket stand of 121 with Pradeep Basthian (57), while Will Outhart weighed in with 55.

Jamie Agnew (105) scored his maiden century for Ben Johnson as he and fellow opener Steve Wragg (60) put on 132 in the 98-run win against Heworth, who recovered from 10-4 to a respectable 126-8 thanks to Matthew Wragg’s unbeaten 61.

Several Vale players from the Selby area were at Twickenham for the town’s RU Senior Vase victory so it was no surprise Selby lost heavily to North Duffield at Sandhill Lane. Duffield’s Paul Johnson (78) and Steve Miller (70) shared a partnership of 158 to lead their side to 221-7 before James Knibb (5-17) and James Lacey (4-12) routed Selby for 37.

Ali Barton (64) led Clifton Alliance to victory at Thixendale while Lewis Smith struck an unbeaten 72 to guide Thorpe Willoughby to a four-wicket win against a weakened Wheldrake.

in division three, Ben Morrison smashed 119 in a third-wicket partnership of 138 with Andy Cole (56no) in the win against Pocklington in division three.

Kevin Bradley was the dominant force as Dunnington defeated Yapham by 87 runs in division four.

He hit 119 in their total of 178 before team-mate Joshua Archer eclipsed Steve Hardwick’s five-wicket haul for Yapham with 5-15.

Andy Watson scored an unbeaten 106 as nine-man Burn II made a useful 203-5 against Stockton & Hopgrove II, whose strong batting line-up, led by Dan Reardon (72no) reached their target with four overs to spare.

In division five, Saleem Hussain (55no) and Andrew Jackson (39no) added an unbroken stand of 99 to see Thorpe Willoughby II home at Woodhouse Grange.

The Press performance of the week

Chris Fryer’s match-winning haul of 7-27 just shaded Stockton & Hopgrove team-mate Giles Smith’s 134 in the first division win against Burn.
