YORKSHIRE skipper Andrew Gale and coach Jason Gillespie will help the HPH York Vale Cricket League celebrate their 80th anniversary.

They will star in An Evening With... at Dunnington Sports Club on Tuesday, June 18, with proceeds going to the Yorkshire Cricket Development Foundation.

The question and answer session will be hosted by BBC Radio York’s Adam Tomlinson, who plays in the Vale League with Thorp Arch & Boston Spa.

Each of the league’s 46 teams will be given the opportunity to buy a maximum of two £10 tickets before the league’s pre-season meeting at Fulfordgate WMC on Tuesday.

The venue at Dunnington holds a maximum of 120 so the remainder of the tickets will be made available to clubs on a first come, first served basis until Sunday, April 28.

If there are any left after that, they will go on general sale.

During the evening there will be an auction and raffle of cricket goods organised by Leeds-based All Rounder, the league’s new sponsor of the annual Young Player of the Year award.

Another event to mark the league’s landmark 80 years is the revival of the Vale League representative side.

Matches have been arranged against two sides from the lower divisions of the York & District Senior League and the Senior League’s Conference.

The Vale League team, which last played as a representative side 20 years ago, will be chosen by players Richard Kerrison, of Stockton & Hopgrove, and Ian Holmes, of Bishopthorpe, who are both league committee members.

The Vale League will play the Conference on Sunday, June 9, with the Conference taking on the Senior League the following Sunday. The final game will be on Sunday, September 8, when the Vale XI face the Senior League.

The last game will be played at Hemingbrough, who are making another bid to join the Senior League in 2014 after having an application to become members rejected at the last Senior League annual general meeting.

If Hemingbrough are successful this time, their second team will remain in the Vale League.
