A LATE Hull onslaught ended York Cricket Club's unbeaten start to the Oxbridge Yorkshire ECB County Premier League season.
After victories over Rotherham Town and Appleby Frodingham, the Clifton Parkers suffered a five-wicket defeat at Hull.
York totalled 254-6 from their 55 overs with opener Dan Wilson making a century, but Hull hit a six off the final ball to snatch victory.
Batting first on winning the toss, Wilson and Duncan Snell gave York a steady start until Snell was bowled by Sergeant with the score on 34.
This brought Simon Mason to the crease and the score moved to 82 in the 23rd over, before Mason was adjudged lbw to off-spinner Andy Simpson for 25. Alex Collins then shared the highest stand of the innings with Wilson, adding 74 runs for the third wicket.
Collins' departure brought in Graeme Tomlinson, who helped Wilson to see the 200 up for York in the 45th over.
In the same over, Wilson was caught off Rhodes for 108, a fine knock which included 13 fours and a six.
Most of York's runs in the last ten overs were attributed to Tomlinson. However, only 53 came in that closing period and, with four wickets left, York could have wielded the long handle to better effect.
Despite that, they had to be satisfied with their total on a wicket which appeared to favour the batsmen.
Hull, though, were given a brisk start by Simpson and Tim Appleyard, with 50 being reached in 44 minutes and 12.4 overs.
But in Snell's second over, Appleyard was out lbw, with the score on 63. Then Tom Dimaline was stumped by Nigel Durham off the bowling of off-spinner Alex Renton, with the score on 88.
James Hodgson came in to join Simpson and the pair formed a match-winning partnership.
They were both caught on the boundary edge, Simpson for 102 (including six fours and four sixes) and Hodgson for 99 (12 fours and two sixes), but thanks to these two, Hull achieved their target off the final ball of the final over. It came as number five batsman Dan Wilkinson hit Renton's final delivery over deep square leg for six.
Hull had had to score 80 from the last ten overs, and 44 off the last five - but they managed it, and their success earned them six points.
York play host to Harrogate at Clifton Park on Saturday.

LAST YEAR it was a shark off the Cornwall coast that saw The Sun through the silly season; this year it’s little green men in flying saucers over Shropshire. Both stories, of course, are utter tosh.
