New Year's Day cricket match abandoned

WET weather has forced the abandonment of a New Year’s Day cricket match between York Cricket Club and a York & District Senior League XI.

The game was due to signal the start of the league’s centenary year celebrations, but York officials are concerned about possible long-term damage to the Clifton Park square.

Plans to hire an outdoor mat to cover the square were scuppered by the costs and league secretary Albert Pattison said he was “extremely disappointed” the game would not take place, but understood York’s concerns.
