CHAMPIONS York Cricket Club signed off the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League season with a thrilling five-run win over third-placed Cleethorpes.
The points looked to be going the way of home side Cleethorpes until the visitors claimed the last six wickets for 23 runs.
York’s Marcus Wood, in his final appearance as first-team skipper, won the toss and chose to bat first.
Liam McKendry (28) and Duncan Snell (41) got the innings off to a solid start.
Oliver Hairs (46), Alex Collins (53), Ryan McKendry (15) and Dan Woods (26) helped carry York’s score to 253 all out.
Alex Osmond took 5-51.
Rory Osmond (59) and Charlie Tomlinson (83) put on 129 for the second Cleethorpes wicket and Alex Osmond hit a breezy 41 off 30 balls. With the game heading in the home side’s direction, Dan Woods (4-76) and Ryan McKendry (4-55) turned the match and had them all out for 248.
• Heworth teenager Jack Leaning top-scored with 71 not out as Yorkshire Academy beat Barnsley by six wickets in their final Yorkshire League fixture.
Leaning’s knock off 109 balls included five fours and two sixes.
