HOLDERS York Cricket Club will defend their Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy in a final against either Scholes or Scarborough.

The Clifton Park club lie in wait for Yorkshire League rivals Scarborough or Huddersfield League champions Scholes after beating Methley in the semi-finals.

Central Yorkshire League champions Methley won the toss at Clifton Park and decided to bat.

They were given an excellent start by their two openers, Nick Connelly and Hamed Khan.

The pair saw off York opening bowlers Tom Bartram and Jonathan Moxon, making 66 off the first 12 overs.

At that point stand-in captain Nick Kay brought on spinners Daniel Woods and Tom Pringle, who had immediate success.

The openers were both out at the same score of 69, with each of the spinners taking a wicket.

Woods bowled his ten-over allocation without a break, taking 3-18.

Pringle, who bowled two spells of five overs, conceded only ten runs and took two wickets, while Dan Wilson took 3-32.

While the spinners were on, Methley slumped from 69 without loss to 122-8.

The tail enders, however, found scoring easier when the pace bowlers returned and, mainly through the efforts of John Rickers and Mark Atkinson, Methley reached 173-9 in their 50 overs.

When York batted, Wilson, aided by fellow opener Duncan Snell, made a blistering attack on the Methley opening bowlers.

The duo had 63 runs were on the board when Snell was bowled for 18 in the eighth over.

Wilson and Simon Mason took the score on to 90 by the 15th over, at which point Wilson was stumped three runs short of a half-century.

Mason and Liam McKendry then added 81 runs in 33 minutes before Mason was out, caught on the boundary, attempting a big hit to win the match. His 79 came off 69 balls, including 11 fours and a six.

York won by three wickets, with more than 20 overs to spare.
