DIRECTOR of cricket Martyn Moxon says Yorkshire’s fortnight in Barbados will put the finishing touches to their pre-season preparations.
The White Rose squad touched down on the Caribbean Island last night with their first County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on April 9 looming large on the horizon.
“We haven’t got much time, it’s just over a week after we come back that we start the season,” said Moxon.
“Barbados finishes off the work we’ve been doing all winter, and we need to come home match fit and ready to go. We also want to have plans available for the various competitions – and have a good idea of what our team’s going to be.”
Yorkshire will play on eight days out of the 14, featuring in two two-day games against Derbyshire and Lancashire, possibly three Twenty20 matches and two 40-over contests.
Moxon said: “It’s been geared around 50-over cricket on previous pre-season tours (to the UAE), but I wanted it this way purposefully. Once we’re into the season we haven’t got any days available to practice various forms of the game.”
Yorkshire will train at Queen’s Park CC today and tomorrow before facing Derbyshire at the 3 Ws Oval on Wednesday.
Yorkshire will be without Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad, Jacques Rudolph and Daryl Tuffey.
Yorkshire itinerary: Wed 17, Thurs 18 – Derbyshire (2-d, 3 Ws Oval), Sat 20 – University of WI (T20, Kensington Oval), Sun 21 – T20 Finals Day (2 matches, 3 Ws or Kensington Oval), Mon 22 – Essex (40-over SF, Kensington Oval), Tues 23 – Play-off or Final (40-over, 3 Ws or Kensington Oval), Fri 26, Sat 27 – Lancashire (2-d, Kensington Oval).
