York Cricket Club six points away from Oxbridge Yorkshire League title

SIX points are all that separates York Cricket Club from winning a third successive Oxbridge Yorkshire ECB County Premier League title tomorrow.

The Clifton Parkers meet their year-long rivals Yorkshire Academy knowing an incomplete win will be enough to see off the Headingley-based outfit’s league challenge.

Just three points split the two sides at the top but York, crucially, play the match on their own patch and are hoping a big crowd can see them to victory.

York will go into the game in confident mood after Australian opener Dan Wilson broke the league scoring record in a nine-wicket victory over Harrogate on Bank Holiday Monday.

Wilson has now notched 1,446 after his 67 took him past Andrew Bourke’s 2003 record of 1,421 runs.

Club secretary Nick Kay says York are looking forward to tomorrow’s opportunity.

“It’s a championship decider and it’s a massive game,” he said.

“It’s one of those games you look forward to playing – the chance to go out there and win the league trophy.

“It’s what we have thought about for the last four or five months and we are going to enjoy it. Home advantage is massive for us. It’s not an easy place to come to.”

York are at full strength with only Ashley Hulme, still away in Holland, unlikely to make it back in time for the match.
