TOM Brooks felt justice had been done when York CC replaced Harrogate as leaders of Yorkshire Premier League North this week.

Beaten at Harrogate on Saturday, York were 10 points adrift in second place yet, by Monday evening, were back on top of the pile.

Harrogate had suffered a shock defeat at Driffield Town - ending their run of six consecutive victories - and York had bounced back with a 10 point win over Clifton Alliance.

“It was certainly a disappointment to get beaten by Harrogate but the weather was a contributing factor and we probably took the wrong decision to bowl first,” he said.

“It was frustrating to lose in those circumstances but we bounced back in style against Clifton Alliance with some top drawer batting.

“It would have been easy to sit in the hut and dwell on Saturday’s defeat but, instead, we proved a point,” he added. “It felt like we had got justice when we heard that Harrogate had lost to Driffield.”

Wicketkeeper Brooks top-scored with 66 against Harrogate after being promoted to opening bat in the absence of Tom Friend. Against Clifton, he made way for Jack Leaning who produced a half century. Leaning is now away on Yorkshire duty but Friend is available for Saturday’s trip to struggling Easingwold.

“We want 10 points from this game without a doubt,” said Brooks, who has now fully recovered from a hip operation in February. “No disrespect to Easingwold - but they have not had the best start to the season. We have had a good season so far and only a couple of results have not gone the way we would have liked.

“It’s only early June - and there are still three months of the season to go and all to play for - but we are top of the table and want to stay there.”

Second-placed Harrogate visit fourth-placed Scarborough.

Acomb dropped to eighth in the table after suffering a third defeat in four games and have collected only seven points along the way. Their opponents tomorrow are third placed Yorkshire Academy who are in excellent form.

Two of their last four games have been abandoned but they took maximum points against both Stamford Bridge and York and are only two points behind their rivals in the top three.

Clifton Alliance are still without a win after seven games going into their home game against seventh placed Stamford Bridge.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge were the only team to pick up maximum points over the Bank Holiday weekend. Back-to-back victories over Woodhouse Grange and Clifton Alliance lifted them up to sixth in the table ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Driffield.

Woodhouse Grange travel to Hull for a game of huge significance in the battle against relegation. Grange pulled off the shock of the weekend when defeating high-flying Scarborough but were unable to build on that result and lost against SHB.

With next-to-bottom Hull taking eight points from a winning draw at Easingwold, it means that Grange will be dragged into the bottom two if they lose tomorrow.
