FOUR out of the six teams competing from the Yorkshire League North won through the first round of this year’s Royal London ECB National Club Championship.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge were involved in a thrilling contest at home to North Yorkshire & South Durham League side Richmondshire which finished with the scores level - the hosts going through by virtue of having lost one fewer wicket than their opponents.

The home side's total of 257-7 contained half-centuries from Oliver Grayson (67), Mark Fisher (59) and Yorkshire all-rounder Karl Carver (50). Their reward is a trip to the North East to take on South Northumberland.

Driffield Town set up a second round meeting with York after they beat Brandon by six wickets at Kings Mill Road.

James Pick (3-41) and Casey Rudd (3-29) shared six wickets as the visitors were held to 210-8.

The home side then raced to victory with 10 overs to spare, Rudd leading the way with 79 to cap a fine individual, and team, performance.

Scarborough beat visitors Benwell Hill by six wickets. Father and son Neil and Ben Elvidge both made 42 and Darren Harland 57 in a total of 232-4.

That was in reply to the away side's 230-8, Linden Grey taking 3-42. Elvidge’s men will travel to Chester-le-Street in the next round.

Dunnington also looked to be in the driving seat at Barnard Castle after George Drury’s 95 helped them post 214-7, with the hosts then reduced to 68-5.

However, the visitors were unable to press home their advantage, a big unbeaten partnership seem eventually go down by five wickets.

Stamford Bridge also missed out on a place in the next round after they were well beaten by Stockton.

Dom Rhodes' 42 was the only highlight in a disappointing batting display which saw the visitors bowled out for 150, the visitors then taking less than 27 overs to reach their target.

Woodhouse Grange are in a different part of the draw to Yorkshire League North’s other sides and will head south in the next round after they thumped Grimsby Town by 212 runs to set up a meeting with Sheffield Collegiate.

Skipper Andrew Bilton scored 135 and brother Chris 96 as the pair added 211 for the second wicket, on the way to an imposing total of 320-6 from 45 overs.

The hosts never looked like threatening that score as Chris Wood (5-36) and Josh Jackson (4-17) combined to devastating effect to bowl them out for 108.
