YORK CC captain Daniel Woods has set his side a double target after missing out on the league title to Harrogate.

Woods wants York to finish the season on a high by securing victories against Driffield in the final game of Hunters Yorkshire Premier League North and Pudsey St Lawrence in the final of the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy.

Second placed York are still level on points with third placed Yorkshire Academy whose final game of the season is away at mid-table Hull.

If York fail to beat Driffield, they are in danger of finishing outside the top two in the league table for the first time in 13 years.

"Congratulations to Harrogate," said Woods. "They have been the best team in the league this year."

Harrogate had waited 14 years to lift the league title and were crowned champions without even bowling a ball last weekend because wet weather washed out all the fixtures and they hold a 12 point lead.

"Obviously, it was extremely disappointing that the games were washed out - to lose it in that way was gutting - but it would still have taken a miracle to win the league from that position," said Woods.

"Now we have to ensure that we finished in second place," he stressed. "York's first team has not finished outside the top two since 2003, which tells you how successful the club has been, and I don't want to be part of a side that doesn't finish in the top two."

On Sunday, York play Bradford Premier League leaders Pudsey St Lawrence in the 50 over Black Sheep Trophy final at Sheriff Hutton Bridge, starting at 12noon.

"Winning the league is always the number one target but it would be nice to finish the weekend with some silverware," he added.

Yorkshire all-rounder Jack Leaning will play for his club side York in both games this weekend.

Stamford Bridge visit champions Harrogate and Acomb host Woodhouse Grange. Fourth placed Sheriff Hutton Bridge finish their campaign at home to relegated Dunnington.
