IT was a day of mixed fortunes for the Hunters Yorkshire Premier League North sides in the second round of the Royal London Club Championship with two out four sides going through to the regional semi-final stage.

An all-local affair at Moor Farm saw York beat hosts Sheriff Hutton Bridge by seven wickets. Skipper Adam Fisher (40) top scored for the home side but they were dismissed for only 164.

Liam McKendry, only brought into the attack because of an injury in the opening overs, finished with 3-17 from 5.3 overs and Fisher's opposite number, Dan Woods, took 2-24 from nine. McKendry then led the reply with 77, and Joe Ashdown made 40 as the visitors progressed to the next round.

They will meet North East Premier League champions South Northumberland, who beat visitors Dunnington by 51 runs.

The home side posted 246-7 which included a half-century from former Australian Test batsman Marcus North.

Jack Bolam replied with 83 but the target proved beyond the reach of his side as they were bowled out for 195.

Scarborough fell just short at Richmondshire, losing out by 14 runs. Jack Holt (4-33) took four wickets as the hosts were dismissed for 241, skipper Ben Elvidge (2-25) showing excellent control conceding in his nine overs.

Oliver Stephenson (40) and Darren Harland (39) got the reply off to an excellent start and, with Mark Tennant (55) still at the crease and the total on 185-2, the visitors looked well placed, but they were unable to see it through.

In another part of the draw Harrogate set up a tie against former Yorkshire League rivals Sheffield Collegiate by beating Elsecar by 62 runs.

The home batters dominated, George Ross (67) and David Foster (64) making use of the excellent conditions, allowing Harry Stothard (48) and Tom Geeson-Brown (45no) to attack later on for a total of 305-7.

Ashley Griffin took three wickets in the reply but it was the combination of Ross and Foster which stifled the opposition, the pair conceding 51 from 18 overs, an outstanding effort given the match aggregate of 550 runs from 90 overs.
