YORK Cricket Club are hoping to emerge from this weekend as Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB League double winners.

A victory at third-placed Harrogate Town tomorrow will clinch York's eighth league title in nine seasons, while Yorkshire Academy - who finished champions last term - will then travel to Clifton Park for Sunday's League Cup final, starting at 11am.

York will welcome back Charlie Elliot tomorrow with Ollie Leedham dropping out and, injuries permitting, the same 11 players will take to the field on Sunday.

Captain Nick Kay, though, has stressed the importance of clearing one hurdle at a time and made it clear that neither match will be easy.

"Both games are just as important, but we're not looking beyond tomorrow's game because we know that, if we take eight points, we will win the league and that's what we've been working towards since April," he reasoned. "If we get the result we need, we've then got an exciting chance to do the league and cup double.

"Yorkshire Academy did it last season and we last did it five years ago, so that would be a special achievement. But we can't get carried away.

"Harrogate is a tough place to go and they are a very talented 50-over team so it will be a difficult contest. They're third in the league for a reason and have a very strong batting line-up.

"They have the league's two leading run scorers Jonathon Tattersall and George Ross in their middle order. But we had a terrific result against them earlier in the season when we bowled them out for 120 and got them both out cheaply and, if we can do that again, that would put a lot of pressure on the rest of their batsmen."
