YORK Cricket Club kept up the pressure on the league leaders in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League with a seven-wicket victory over Driffield Town.

Tom Pringle's best performance of the season - the spinner recording 5-13 - saw the Clifton Parkers bowl the visitors out for 108 on their way to their ninth successive win.

Town’s captain Danny Broumpton headed back to the pavilion, caught behind for nought, in the third over off Adam Whatley and he was followed shortly after by George Drury, who also failed to register and chipped a Charlie Elliot delivery up to mid on for Simon Lambert to take the first of three catches.

Opener Ali Asad looked assured at the crease, though, and was joined by Tom Norman in the innings’ only stand of note.

The partnership of 55 spanned 14 overs but lacked the fluency to put the fielding side under pressure and Asad’s patience finally ran out.

Having made 38 from 69 balls, he attempted to hit Ryan McKendry (3-26) over the top but only found Lambert.

The Pakistan A batsman was replaced Sam Drury, but his innings last just eight balls before he was stumped having charged down the wicket at McKendry.

The spinner made it two in two balls as Owen Goldsworthy edged the next delivery to Liam McKendry at slip as the visitors collapsed to 84-5.

Tom Norman was the beneficiary of two of four dropped chances and went on to become one of only two batsmen to reach double figures.

His score had reached 37, and the total 88, when he was given out lbw.

That marked the start of Pringle's devastating spell, the leg spinner taking five wickets for five runs in 4.1 overs. At one stage he was on a hat-trick having secured successful lbw appeals against Alec Drury and Johnny Anderson.

York’s openers quickly signalled their intent in reply, Lambert striking the second ball of the innings for four and Whatley opening his account with a huge six over deep midwicket.

But any thoughts of a brisk end to proceedings diminished when both batsmen were out inside the first seven overs.

Lambert was caught behind off Ollie Ezard and Anderson found the edge of Whatley’s bat and the score was 34-2.

After a tea break, Ryan McKendry was caught at slip by Broumpton off Alec Drury but that was as good as it got for the visitors as Liam McKendry (40no) and Alex Collins (21no) eased the hosts to a comfortable victory reaching their target inside 30 overs.
