NICK KAY has warned his York Cricket Club side against complacency as they bid to continue their surge up the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League table.

Four successive league victories have vaulted the Clifton Parkers up to fourth in the ladder - 14 points behind leaders Barnsley - and they welcome a Doncaster Town outfit to Shipton Road tomorrow that they have already beaten three times this season in the league and cups.

They are results that should give skipper Kay and his resurgent side a psychological lift as they get ready for another must win game if they are to have any serious title ambitions.

But the captain believes York must take Doncaster on their merits, or else face coming a cropper.

He said: "We have played them three times this year and got the better of them on each occasion.

"The League Cup game was a very tight match - they did very well against us and we unlucky not to get the result.

"They are a team that on their day have players capable of beating us and this is a fixture they look for every season. They are not to be underestimated.

"It certainly gives our team confidence to know that we have had the better of them. I don't think you can say any different. What will beat us is complacency if we take them too lightly.

"We have to win nearly every game and we have talked about that this week. We are ready to go tomorrow and will not be taking our foot off the gas.

"We have strung together a run of victories. We are a new team and it did take some bedding in.

"We lost the first two games and that is very tough to come back from but we have a real will to win."

Having recovered from those defeats, and a dispiriting loss to Hull at the start of June, Kay believes York can put the squeeze on table-topping Barnsley if they continue their good league form.

"We are looking above us now, rather than below, and we are chasing Barnsley," he added. "We do feel that they are in our sights.

"Historically, they have been in good positions in the past and faltered. I am not saying they will do that this time but if we can put pressure on them they would rather any team was chasing them than York."

With bowler Charlie Elliot still missing, second team captain Ian Jarvis will continue to step up to the Clifton Parkers' elite.

Tickets are still available for the club's Presidents Lunch which is being held tomorrow at Clifton Park, starting at 11.30am for 12noon.
