YORK Cricket Club's bowlers will be going on the attack tomorrow.

The Clifton Parkers travel to Appleby Frodingham in desperate need of a Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League win.

York narrowly failed to pull off one of the biggest run chases in league history when finishing just one short of hunting down Hull's 347 last weekend and it was a defeat that left them 22 points behind leaders Harrogate.

Vice-captain Tom Pringle, who steps into the skipper's role with Nick Kay away, believes that York must do better in the field and with the ball when they travel to Appleby Frodingham tomorrow.

"Last Saturday was really disappointing," he explained. We bowled poorly as a unit and fielded really poorly as well. The positive was that we nearly knocked off 350 and that was a really great effort from the batsmen and particularly Ryan McKendry.

"It has been that way for the last few weeks and we will look to rectify that at the weekend and get some good discipline, particularly in the field.

"The lads batted really well on Sunday in the T20 competition, especially Chris Booth and Liam McKendry. We did show signs of improvement but it was a weakened Doncaster team so we can't judge ourselves on that performance.

"We can't seem to get on much of a run at the moment. We lost a couple, then we won four, then we lost one and won a couple. We are not getting much momentum going forward and we are a little bit inconsistent.

"We need to sort that out."

York's bowling attack, still trying to adjust to the loss of leading wicket-taker Dan Woods at the end of last season, is further hampered by the loss of Pringle himself, who is suffering with a recurrence of a shoulder injury.

He added: "I am not bowling. I am playing as a fielder. I have had a repercussion of a shoulder injury and it has stiffened up. We have got two or three seamers and, with Ryan McKendry spinning, I would bowl in tandem with him.

"Simon Lambert is bowing off-spin for us but he is mainly an opening batsman. He is doing well for us as a fill-in bowler. We need a bit more threat. We are not looking like taking a lot of wickets. Our bowling is about damage limitation.

"We are a little bit light but we have to look to try and find some wickets and get batsmen out. We have been containing them and we need to be a bit more attacking and aggressive."

On the challenge they will face at Appleby, Pringle said: "They are a team who are consistent every year - just below mid-table. They have got some good players and they are a team that, on their day, can beat anyone. They have beaten Yorkshire Academy for the last three years in a row.

"We have stolen one of their best players in wicket-keeper Tom Brooks. He has done brilliantly well and his batting has been a bit of a revelation. He will bat at six this weekend and he will be looking to get some runs against his old club."
