CUP challenges can help York Cricket Club to focus on returning to winning ways this weekend.

The Clifton Parkers travel to Chester-le-Street on Sunday in Group 1 of the Royal London Club Championship, a competition they triumphed in three years ago.

Skipper Nick Kay and his men must first negotiate a trip to Driffield Town in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League tomorrow, when they will be looking to bounce back after their four-game winning run came to an end at Barnsley last weekend.

That defeat has left York sixth in the table - already 22 points adrift of leaders Harrogate over whom they have a game in hand.

Driffield Town are immediately below the Shipton Road outfit in seventh in the table. Having won three of their seven matches this season, they will not be taken lightly by York as they bid to clamber their way back up the league ladder.

Chester-le-Street will pose an exacting challenge.

The County Durham-based outfit are yet to lose a game this season, with a higher scoring draw against Tynemouth the only completed fixture they have failed to win in ten matches.

They lead the North East Premier League premier division table by 30 points but York will have fond memories of their last trip there last June.

York came away with an eight-run victory in this round of the club championship 12 months ago.
