NEWLY-CROWNED Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League champions Yorkshire Academy played their annual end of season game at Sheriff Hutton Bridge in memory of Bridge coach Philip Fisher and raised more than £1,000 for the fight against cancer.

The Academy included many of their regulars apart from Matthew Fisher who was a member of his home club side.

The hosts also included guest players, including Duncan Snell, the former York opener who started at SHB as a junior, and Russ Robinson, from Sewerby CC.

Batting first the Academy reached 22 but then lost two wickets, one to Eddie Barnes and the other to Matt Fisher who removed Jared Warner for no score.

Mark Fisher came into the attack along with Jordan Grose, the former applying skill and speed as the innings slipped to 72-6.

Jordan Thompson and James Wainman added 69 before the former fell to Grose for 23. Wainman continued to flourish and was well supported by the last three batsmen. He made 80 before falling to Mark Fisher at 221, Adam Fisher taking a catch.

Bridge were given a fine start by Snell and Eddie Barnes (22) in a 61-run stand.

Snell and Adam Fisher then moved to 111 before Snell fell to Wainman for 63. Fisher perished for 26 and a further wicket followed quickly.

At 183, Matt Fisher was out for 17 but Robinson was in fine form making 50 not out to help confirm a five-wicket win in the penultimate over.
