YORK Cricket Club are determined to end their season on a high.

Their rained off Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League game against Sheffield Collegiate along with their crushing defeat against Elsecar in the Black Sheep Champions Trophy final last weekend means the Clifton Parker will end a season without any silverware for the first time in nearly a decade.

They close their league campaign with a trip to traditional rivals Barnsley and captain Dan Woods says the planning has already begun to retrieve a trophy they held for seven straight years from the hands of Yorkshire Academy.

"We just want to try and finish with a victory," he said. "Congratulations to the Academy. They have been the stand out side during the season and they are an exceptional team. We have had a lot of younger players in the team this year and these experiences are only going to help and improve them.

"It was a horrible feeling the dressing room after Sunday's game (against Elsecar). There were some very upset people there. It is only going to inspire us to come back stronger next season."

On Barnsley he added: "I don't think there is such thing as a friendly against Barnsley. They will be up for it and, following last week's massive disappointment, we want to try and put in a decent performance."

Glen Richmond is still struggling with an injury, while Richard Pineo is back at Ampleforth College.
