YORK’S seven-year reign as Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier Cricket League champions ended as rain forced the abandonment of their match against Sheffield Collegiate.
The result at Clifton Park proved irrelevant as Yorkshire Academy picked up the victory they need to secure the title at Cleethorpes.
York went into their penultimate league fixture knowing only a victory would keep alive their faint hopes of retaining their crown, but having made 214-6 the remainder of the game was washed out.
After losing Simon Lambert first ball, a stand of 86 between skipper Dan Woods (43) and Liam McKendry (69) got things back on track.
Ryan McKendry added 33 from 26 balls and Nick Kay raced to 35 from 17 balls and was out for 40 before the rains began to fall.
