VICE-CAPTAIN Tom Pringle will lead York Cricket Club in their Royal London ECB National Club Championship quarter-final at Chorley in the absence of skipper Dan Woods.

Woods will be representing Cheshire in a three-day match on Sunday, but the captain said the Clifton Parkers will be in good hands with Pringle at the helm.

"He's an outstanding player," said Woods.

"He's played through a lot of painful injuries over the last couple of years, but now has a huge influence on the side's performances.

"We're very lucky to have him, as he's without a doubt one of the best bowlers in the league."

Pringle starred in York's last-16 victory over Chesterfield last Sunday, as he took 4-17 in a 158-run-victory.

York batted first at their Clifton home and posted a tremendous total of 310-3, with runs from Liam McKendry (105), Ryan McKendry (86 not out), Simon Lambert (60) and skipper Woods (42).

Woods said: "It was, once again, a very good wicket to bat on.

"The performances of the boys was outstanding, and we're delighted with the way we played."

Alongside Pringle's 4-17, Woods played a major role in skittling the visitors for 152 as he took 3-15 to close the innings with more than ten overs to spare.

That was the second half of a weekend double for York, who cruised past fourth place Doncaster Town in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League.

York racked up 327-7 before skittling Town for 211 and Woods said: "It's obviously a very good win against a very good side. We're all very happy about it."

Leaders Yorkshire Academy are still five points clear of the reigning champions, having ploughed through third-placed Barnsley by 160 runs.

Woods said: "They're a good team, but they're out of our control.

"We can't do anything about them, so we're just going to concentrate on our own performances."

York have no league match tomorrow, so all eyes are on Sunday, with Charlie Elliot and Richard Love coming in for Woods and middle-order batsman Ian Jarvis.

A new opening partner will need to be found for Simon Lambert as Woods has been filling that role in recent weeks as cover for Jack Leaning, who is part of Yorkshire's first-team plans.

Asked whether his move up the order will become permanent, Woods said: "I don't really know, to be honest.

"I think we'll just take it game by game and I'll do what's best for the team."
