Daniel Woods was in inspirational form taking nine wickets as newly-crowned Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League champions York Cricket Club recorded a 105-run victory over Appleby Frodingham.

York skipper Woods passed Ken Skilbeck’s record of 84 wickets in a Yorkshire League season for York set back in 1975. He is still in with a chance of the all-time record of 90 with just next week's home game against Sheffield Collegiate to play.

Having retained the title last week, and today’s Yorkshire League Cup final to negotiate, York might have been excused for showing a little complacency at Brumby Hall, but there was no sign of it.

Openers Duncan Snell and Jack Leaning took advantage of wayward bowling to share a stand of 47, Snell hitting two sixes before being caught at long -n by John Heath off the bowling off his brother Duncan.

Liam McKendry and Oliver Hairs fell cheaply for a wobble at 82-3. But a stand of 77 between Leaning and Alex Collins kept the visitors on track on a pitch providing both turn and variable bounce.

Leaning reached his half-century off 73 balls and went on to make 73 hitting just four boundaries.

Collins also hit four boundaries, two of them sixes, reaching 40 before being sixth out on 168.

Tom Pringle was the only other batsman to reach double figures, his 35 from 25 balls included three sixes and gave the innings late impetus as York finished on 214-9 from 55 overs.

York’s bowlers began poorly conceding 11 wides in the first four overs. But once control was established, Woods struck twice in an over to dismiss opposing skipper Duncan Heath and Kieran Lindley. When Greg How bowled Keiran Watson the reply was 34-3.

Woods bowled unchanged, taking full advantage of the favourable conditions.

Only Matt Morland (20) and wicket-keeper Tom Brookes (30) offered any real resistance.

Woods found the edge regularly, McKendry taking three of the four catches in the slips.

Paul Hilton provided some late entertainment with two fours and a six in his 19 before being last out, the second of two stumpings for Nigel Durham, as the hosts perished for 109.
