YORK Cricket Club must impose the fear factor if they are to get past bogey team Driffield Town in the Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League tomorrow.

The Clifton Parkers entertain an East Yorkshire outfit that have beaten them twice already this season – in the league and in the regional finals of the t20 competition.

“They are one of the very few teams that come to York expecting to get a positive result against us,” said vice-captain Nick Kay.

“They don’t fear us and there are very few sides psychologically we haven’t got on top of. Driffield are definitely one of them.

“They are aggressive with the bat. They look to take wickets with the new ball. They’ve got two very capable spinners.

“They are very similar to ourselves – maybe a slightly younger side and a bit more inexperienced.

“They are one of the best three or four teams in the league. Driffield have beaten us twice and both times we were completely outplayed.

“If we can beat them tomorrow not only does it give us confidence and moves us a step forward in the league but gives us confidence before we play them again in the League Cup final later next month.”

York have a 20-point advantage over Yorkshire Academy at the top of the pile and Kay is keen for the Shipton Road outfit to prevail this weekend – believing they need to win four out of their final six matches to claim a seventh successive title.

“We have got five of those games at home and home advantage is very strong for us. Twenty points is a lot for the Academy to make up and we are delighted to be in the position we are,” he said.

“We know, however, a couple of defeats and it is game on again so we are not looking too far ahead.”

Kay was full of praise for his side’s batting prowess after they smacked a league record 425 against Barnsley last time out in a crushing victory and hopes that form can continue for the rest of the season.

He said: “We scored 300 against Hull and then 425 last week. The wickets are great and it gives you a lot of confidence. You can put a score on the board or chase one down.

“When you are scratching around for results you question whether you are in decent form.

“We’ve got three guys, Duncan Snell, Jack Leaning and Liam McKendry, who look like they are going to get a thousand runs and I have never known that at York before.”

That top will continue to spearhead York’s batting against Driffield, with Glen Richmond joining fellow bowlers Tom Pringle and Dan Woods in the starting XI.
