York Cricket Club consigned Stockton & Hopgrove to an immediate drop into the Foss Evening Cricket League second division after a 20-run win.

Youngsters Will Stephen (48) and Kieron Bloor (31) led York to 130-4 and, despite the efforts of 31 from Matt Durkin and Kalum Perera, it was not enough as both Thomas Wright and Neil Reader took 3-19.

Stamford Bridge sneaked home by four runs against Dunnington as skipper Matt Beckett’s off-breaks were enough to stop Jack Bolam hitting the winning runs from the last over.

Earlier, Dunnington’s J Hall took 3-21 to restrict Stamford to 96-7.

Youngster Jay Snowden made 28 and Adam Iyer 25 for the home team, but both knocks proved in vain.

Osbaldwick – increasingly likely to make an immediate return to the top echelon – overtook Melbourne by dishing out a seven-wicket defeat to the long-term leaders of division two.

Two wickets each from Alex Rippon and Tom Young, allied with four dismissals for Steve Horner in the field, held Melbourne to 76-9, despite 36 from Ian Kirby.

Osbaldwick made a woeful start to their chase by losing two wickets in the first over but an unbeaten 39 from Young, in addition to D Heard’s 22no, saw Osbaldwick to the win.

Melbourne could now slip out of the promotion slots as Pocklington sit only two points outside the top two after Bishopthorpe conceded to the Burnby Laners.

Bubwith claimed an eight-wicket victory over Ovington, thanks to an all-round performance from Sean Houltham.

Ovington posted 117-6 of which Joe Whale made 50 and Pete Kelly 25, while Houltham took 2-23. Houltham then made an unbeaten 51 and, aided by Andrew Winn (26no), secured victory.

Dunnington Academy virtually secured promotion from division three after York RI conceded their fixture.

A further point from either of their last two games will see Dunnington’s youngsters promoted as champions. York RI are now the third team that will have to seek re-election to the league at the forthcoming annual meeting.

Sunny Sharma dominated Aviva Vikings’ win over Heworth Colts. In the 173-2 total, Sharma made an unbeaten 84 with eight fours and three sixes. He also executed two run-outs and conceded only three runs in his two overs as the Colts fell at 103-6.

The Retreat II’s Rich Carroll blew away the Askham Bryan batting line-up with four wickets for no runs in three overs. Khalid Shefta also picked up 3-10 to bundle out Askham for 58 in 17.3 overs.

Retreat knocked the runs off in 61 balls for the loss of four wickets.
