YORK captain Dan Woods became only the sixth bowler to take all ten wickets in a Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier Cricket League match as the leaders thrashed Castleford by 138 runs.

The Clifton Parkers totalled 295-9 from their 55 overs, with Liam McKendry leading the way with an unbeaten 97.

Woods, the league’s leading wicket-taker, then skittled the hosts single-handedly, returning incredible figures of 10-42 from 16.4 overs. Cas were all out for 157.

It was the first time all ten wickets have fallen to one bowler in the Yorkshire League since Sheffield Collegiate’s Bill Croft achieved the feat in 1987.

The best-ever bowling figures in the competition were recorded by Leeds’ M Wright in 1959. He claimed 10-23.

Woods, whose previous best league bowling figures were 7-36, said: “It was crazy really. I’ve never done that before at any level and I never dreamed of getting all ten wickets in an innings.”

With only three balls of his allocation remaining, the left-arm spinner had all his fielders close in surrounding Eddie Morrison.

When the batsman advanced down the pitch and lofted the ball back over Woods’ head in the direction of mid-on, the bowler had to chase back and hold his nerve to take an excellent catch over his shoulder to complete the momentous haul.

Earlier in the day, York had looked comfortable on 110-1 with Duncan Snell on 40 and Simon Lambert on 33, when the latter attempted a reverse sweep shot managing only to drag the ball onto his stumps.

That sparked a collapse which saw four wickets fall before the total reached 150, spinners John Randerson and Liam Hyde both picking up a brace.

Liam McKendry stood firm while wickets fell and, with Charlie Elliot, he was able to form a partnership which began to turn things in favour of the visitors.

Elliot contributed 24 of the 35 added for the seventh wicket.

McKendry received support from Tom Love (5) and Woods (15), allowing him to pass his half-century and take the score towards 250.

A final flourish, aided by Glen Richmond (10no), ensured York posted 295-9 and McKendry was unbeaten on 97. Randerson finished with 4-73. In reply, Charles Finan and skipper Dominic Sharp put on 50 for the first wicket in reply before the former was bowled for 18.

The second wicket did not fall until the 32nd over, the tenth of Woods’ spell, as Will Simpson was lbw for 26. Sharp reached his half-century before being bowled as he advanced down the wicket and Randerson was caught at the wicket by McKendry to leave the hosts 119-4.

Edward Farmer (32) resisted as Woods tormented the lower order, but he was ninth out, stumped.
