GLOBETROTTER David Wainwright heads to Barbados with Yorkshire this weekend – and he is itching to return to the Caribbean with England.

The left-arm spinner travelled to South Africa for five weeks with the ECB Performance Programme squad before Christmas, and then spent three weeks in the United Arab Emirates with the England Lions squad.

He flies out to Barbados with Yorkshire for their pre-season tour on Sunday, and will hope to return there at the end of April with the full England squad for their World Twenty20 campaign.

Wainwright has been named in a provisional 30-man squad for the third edition of the 20-over international jamboree.

“I’ve never been to Barbados before, and if I do get picked (for England) I’ll have already played in those conditions,” said Wainwright, who celebrates his 25th birthday while on tour with Yorkshire.

“Every man in that squad will be hoping that they get selected, I’m no different. If I don’t get in it’s not a bad thing because I know that I’m in the selectors’ thoughts.”

Of the Barbados tour, he added: “It was Abu Dhabi last year, now it’s Barbados. We need to get off to a good start and try and carry that on through the rest of the season.”
