It was a late one at Emerald Headingley today, with day three against Nottinghamshire finishing at approximately 7.40pm.

But it was certainly worth it as the White Rose closed in a first Championship win of 2018.

“I think it’s past everyone’s bed time, isn’t it!” joked Tim Bresnan, who played a crucial part with the bat and struck with the ball.

Bresnan hit an unbeaten 68 in Yorkshire’s second innings as they set Notts a victory target of 403, sharing a last wicket stand of 77 with Ben Coad, who also enjoyed a day to remember with a career best 33 and four wickets.

For Bresnan, this was his highest score in the Championship since that sensational 142 against Middlesex at Lord’s in September 2016.

“Good day,” he continued. “It was dominant day, and Gary and Jack sort of set the platform. Their partnership was key. It put a few overs into them as well and made it easier for us guys down the order.

“Myself and Ben managed to get a decent partnership on at the end, and that’s the kind of thing we need to do to get big scores.

“Anything over 350 would have been Christmas, so to get a 400 lead was outstanding.

“We’re a bit rusty on the bowling front. We’ve gone at fours all day, but we put the ball in the right area and took a few risks.

“I felt good with the bat in the first dig, I had a nice net and felt really good.

“Ben has bowled beautifully. He’s gone for a few more runs than he’d like, but that maybe due to a lack of overs. We’ve hardly bowled outside since we got back from Potchefstroom.

“He bowled plenty of wicket-taking deliveries.”
