YORKSHIRE have endured a difficult morning with the bat against champions Essex at Chelmsford, losing six wickets.

Yorkshire slipped from 23-0 to 90-6 in reply to the hosts 227 all out during the second morning of this Specsavers County Championship Division One match.

Their morning was summed up when Gary Ballance was run out backing up by a Neil Wagner deflection onto a straight driven full toss from Andrew Hodd.

New Zealand left-arm quick Wagner struck three times to get Adam Lyth caught behind for 35 and Jack Leaning and Andrew Hodd lbw.

That came after Jamie Porter made the breakthrough by bowling Kraigg Brathwaite for four and Alex Lees was caught behind in Simon Harmer’s first over.

Lyth had swept off-spinner Harmer’s first ball for four and launched his second over long-on for six.

Hodd fell for 21 with the final ball of the morning in the 31st over.
