ENGLAND Test opener Mark Stoneman put Yorkshire under the cosh at The Oval, with Surrey making a superb start to the Specsavers County Championship match between the sides.

Surrey reached lunch at 126 without loss from 30 overs after winning the toss in good batting conditions.

Stoneman and fellow left-hander Rory Burns took advantage of an off-colour White Rose attack, reaching 72 and 50 not out respectively.

Yorkshire hardly created a chance, with Stoneman reaching 50 from 58 balls and Burns following him to that milestone off 88 in the final over of the session.

The Surrey duo hit 22 boundaries between them during the morning.

Adam Lyth is missing this game with his wife due to give birth. Tom Kohler-Cadmore is likely to open the batting in his place.

Jack Brooks, Steve Patterson and Azeem Rafiq came into the side in place of Liam Plunkett, Ben Coad and Adil Rashid.
