MARTYN Moxon insists Yorkshire still have plenty of hard work ahead as they bid to qualify for the knockout stages of the Royal London one-day Cup.

The Vikings go into today’s North Group clash with neighbours Durham on the back of two wins from two against Notts and Lancashire.

But the next three matches will see their squad tested to the limit as they cope with mixed England player availability news.

The ECB have ordered Liam Plunkett and David Willey to rest ahead of the two-match one-day series with Ireland on Friday and Sunday.

Jonny Bairstow, Adil Rashid and Joe Root remain available after it had been initially agreed that all players would play in the first three RL50 matches.

They will then all miss Yorkshire’s North Group matches against Worcestershire and Derbyshire at New Road and Headingley on Friday and Sunday.

But the quintet will then return to county action for next Wednesday’s clash with Willey’s old county Northamptonshire at Wantage Road and champions Warwickshire at Edgbaston a week on Sunday.

In a further boost to Yorkshire, Durham’s fast bowler Mark Wood has also been withdrawn from today’s match.

“So far so good,” said Moxon, Yorkshire’s director of cricket, who wants a minimum of five wins to secure qualification. “But the job’s not done yet.

“It’s going to be a squad effort over the qualifying period.

“We need to keep going now and build on what we’ve achieved so far.”

Durham head into today’s match having had their first match against Derbyshire rained off before thumping Warwickshire on Monday.

They racked up a mammoth 313-3 from 39 overs in a rain affected contest and currently sit on one point.

The Jets had started the competition on minus two points following the winter ECB penalties handed out for the county’s financial woes.

“Durham are a dangerous team,” said Moxon. “They got a huge score in 39 overs and have some dangerous players. We have to keep our standards high to beat them.

“In 50-over cricket we’ve been in the semi-finals in each of the last two years, and the challenge is to go one better and try to win the competition.”

Ben Coad and Steve Patterson have been drafted into Yorkshire’s squad today along with Sheriff Hutton Bridge left-arm spinner Karl Carver.

One man who will remain available for all cricket is captain Gary Ballance, who continued his stunning start to the new season with 85 against Lancashire on Monday.

The left-handed batsman has now scored 675 runs from eight innings in all cricket with two hundreds, a double century and three more fifties.

He is averaging 112.5, and Moxon is delighted with the 27-year-old’s form.

He added: “Gary’s a batsman with confidence, and there’s no substitute to time in the middle and runs behind you. That’s showing.

“His movements are really positive, and that’s a big part of Gary’s game - getting those movements going.

“When he is doing that, we know what he’s capable of. His talent in all formats comes through.

“He’s fitted in seamlessly to the captaincy, and it’s bringing out the best in him with the bat.”

Meanwhile, Lancashire’s Jimmy Anderson has been available for both Roses Specsavers County Championship matches later this month and into June.
