JACK Brooks, Ryan Sidebottom and Steve Patterson struck for Yorkshire to leave Hampshire with work to do at 77-3 from 22 overs at lunch on day two as they reply to 281 at the Ageas Bowl.
Yorkshire advanced from 275-9 overnight by six runs, with Brooks finishing on 34 not out.
The new-ball seamer then trapped Will Smith lbw in the eighth over of the Hampshire reply before Tom Alsop fell the same way to Sidebottom in the 11th.
Patterson's second ball accounted for Jimmy Adams, caught at short mid-wicket in the 15th over on the way to a total of 38-3.
Hampshire have since recovered somewhat through James Vince and Sean Ervine, who reached the interval 23 not out apiece.
