YORKSHIRE have taken charge of their Specsavers County Championship match against Lancashire by taking seven wickets during the second afternoon at Headingley.

Lancashire, replying to 308, narrowly avoided the follow-on after falling from 68-3 at lunch to 126-8, but have been bowled out for 196.

They needed to pass 159 to avoid having to bat again immediately, and they did so thanks to Liam Livingstone’s 60 not out.

Jack Brooks, Steve Patterson, Tim Bresnan, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid all struck this afternoon, the latter being with his first ball as Yorkshire gained a first-innings lead of 112.

Brooks trapped Alviro Petersen lbw in the first over of the session, and things went downhill rapidly for the visitors.

Karl Brown was caught behind trying to leave Patterson alone before Steven Croft edged Bresnan to third slip.

When Plunkett had Tom Bailey caught behind gloving a bouncer, Lancashire were 92-7 in the 41st over, and that became 126-8 when Rashid trapped Neil Wagner lbw pulling.

Livingstone and Kyle Jarvis (33) shared 48 inside seven overs for the ninth wicket before the latter was stumped off Rashid, who wrapped up the innings by trapping Simon Kerrigan lbw.
