JONNY Bairstow and Joe Root both completed hundreds as Yorkshire piled the pressure on Surrey during the second afternoon at Headingley today.
Replying to 330, the champions had slipped to 45-3 this morning, but the England pair have broken the fourth-wicket record partnership for Yorkshire against Surrey by sharing an unbroken 317 inside 56 overs.
They have taken the score to 362-3 from 66 overs at tea having taken the attack to a weary looking Surrey attack, for whom captain Gareth Batty did not bowl until the 47th over of the innings. At that stage, the score was 212-3.
Bairstow reached his hundred off 96 balls before bringing up 150 off 155 balls.
Root reached 100 in between the two milestones for his team-mate - off 110 balls.
They brought up their 300-run stand just before tea and will resume on 168 and 143 respectively this evening.
