JACK Brooks expects David Willey to make a flying start to his Yorkshire career when he debuts against Nottinghamshire tomorrow.

The new-ball quick bowler will line up alongside his former Northamptonshire team-mate for the first time since the end of 2012 as the champions travel to Trent Bridge for their third Specsavers County Championship match of the season.

Willey will come into the side for the injured Ryan Sidebottom for a fixture which could include as many as 15 capped international players and will be televised by Sky Sports.

"He's the kind of guy who is likely to turn up for a box office game," said Brooks of the 26-year-old all-rounder.

"He's had to wait a while for his debut but it ends up being in front of the cameras. Don't be surprised to see him take a five-for or something.

"It's been interesting because we haven't played with each other, or even spent a lot of time with each other, for three years. A lot has happened in that time in both our careers.

"We were good mates at Northants and roomed together quite a bit. He's engaged now and settled down and he has played for England a lot in the last 18 months.

"It's probably a bit easier for someone like that to come into a changing room and get instant respect from everyone. It's probably slightly different than me when I came in.

"Everyone gets on with him, though. I've known him for years and we have a bit of history, so we can have a laugh and crack about the old times.

"The lads have already given us a bit of stick, hearing us talk about the Northants days. We got a batting world record at Edgbaston in a Twenty20 game (world record-equalling ninth-wicket stand of 59 against Warwickshire in 2011). I mentioned that and got some stick."

Another man who will get some stick in the Yorkshire dressing room over the next couple of weeks is Joe Root, who is available for matches against Notts and then Surrey at Headingley.

Root, preparing for England's summer internationals against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, only played once for Yorkshire last summer, when he scored 55 in a T20 Roses defeat at Headingley.

In the behind-the-scenes Sky documentary Cricketing Yorkshire, which included footage from that fixture, Brooks was seen joking with Root that he looked like a competition winner allowed into the dressing room just for the day.

Brooks recalled: It was the first time we'd seen him in a while and he looked like a little kid. He looks about 12-years-old, doesn't he.

"He'll get a bit of stick, there's no doubt about that – but he'll give as good as he gets. He fits in beautifully in our changing room. He's Yorkshire through and through and he loves playing for us.

"It will be good to have him back because it also keeps others on their toes. You know that you need to keep scoring runs because someone has to miss out.

"It's unfortunate for them but we've got Rooty for two games, so hopefully he can help us kick on and get that first win."

Notts have won one and lost one of their opening two matches.
