YORKSHIRE took command of their final LV= County Championship clash of the season against Sussex as eight wickets fell on the second morning at Headingley.

The visitors went to lunch on 79-5, trailing by 172 in their first innings as the champions chased a record-breaking 11th win of the campaign.

Having resumed on 241-7, the Tykes were bowled out for 251 as they lost their final three wickets inside ten balls.

Tim Bresnan (16) edged Steve Magoffin to Chris Jordan at first slip before Jordan himself picked up the wicket of Jack Brooks for just a single.

Liam Plunkett was the last man to go – caught at mid-on by Ed Joyce to hand Magoffin his fourth wicket of the innings – but he hung around long enough to see Yorkshire to a crucial second bonus point of the match.

That took the White Rose county past Somerset’s total of 266 in 2007, leaving Yorkshire as the new record points scorers since the introduction of two divisions to the County Championship in 2000.

Brooks then gave the Headingley outfit the perfect start with the ball as Joyce edged through to Jonny Bairstow to give him his 60th Championship wicket of the season before Jordan offered a return catch to Ryan Sidebottom for just a single.

Matt Machan launched a mini-recovery as he hit five boundaries on his way to making 26 before edging a drive off Brooks through to Bairstow before Bresnan and Plunkett picked up the wickets of Chris Nash (16) and Luke Wright (21) to reduce the visitors to 70-5.

That left Michael Yardy and Ben Brown to battle through until lunch after a tough morning for batsmen.
