YORKSHIRE lost regular wickets as Sussex fought back well in their final LV= County Championship match of the season.
Resuming after lunch on 106-2, captain Andrew Gale chopped onto his own stumps for 31 off the bowling of Steve Magoffin before the Australian seamer had Jonny Bairstow caught behind for just a single.
Gary Ballance – having gone past 7,000 career first-class runs in the morning session – went through to his half-century from 114 balls, but, after a short rain break, he cut Chris Liddle straight to Ed Joyce at point for 55.
Adil Rashid joined Jack Leaning, but the rain returned as the hosts reached tea on 145-5.
Earlier in the day, having lost the toss and been invited to bat, the Tykes lost Adam Lyth (3) in just the fourth over after being adjudged lbw to Chris Jordan before Alex Lees fell in the same fashion to Lewis Hatchett for 29.
