RICH Pyrah will take a significant step on the coaching ladder with Yorkshire next month after retiring from the game with immediate effect.

The experienced all-rounder, who will be 33 in November, has called time on a professional career which started with a one-day White Rose debut in 2004 and brought him two LV= County Championship medals.

Pyrah played 114 List A, 51 first-class and 105 Twenty20 matches for Yorkshire, with the last of those coming against Gloucestershire in the Royal London Cup one-day semi-final earlier this month.

His stand-out contributions include three first-class centuries and the county's best-ever bowling spell in T20 cricket – 5-16 against Durham at Scarborough.

He also took the catch that sealed last season's Championship title while on the field as a substitute against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Dewsbury-born Pyrah, who has accepted a job to work with all Yorkshire squads from October 1, said: "I have had a wonderful career with Yorkshire and enjoyed every aspect of it.

"I'm now ready for the next chapter in my life and I have always had aspirations of going into coaching.

"I have successfully done my ECB Level Three and am just about to embark on the Level Four qualification over the next two years.

"I'm ready to offer my experience to every aspect of Yorkshire cricket – from developing the ever-increasing young talent that continues to flourish through age-group cricket and working with the senior players.

"It is an exciting period for me and one that I'm relishing.

"In the past, I have had opportunities to leave the club, but I always wanted to stay – even if that was to the detriment of not playing a lot of first-class cricket. I could never see myself working for another county.

"Yorkshire cricket is ingrained in my heart and I'm look forwarding to playing my part in the continued success of this great club."

Pyrah has had previous coaching experience with the ProCoach Cricket Academy, which Andrew Gale runs, and he will travel to Australia for a month later this winter to work with Jason Gillespie's Adelaide Strikers Twenty20 team.

He is also due to spend time with Aaron Finch's Melbourne Renegades and Victoria Bushrangers, for whom Glenn Maxwell plays.

"Rich has been a great servant to the club for over a decade, has grown up with the culture of the club and has played an integral part in our success over the years," said Yorkshire director of professional cricket Martyn Moxon.

"He is ready to become a successful coach and I'm looking forward to working with him in the next period of his career.

"He will be a great asset across all aspects of coaching and will be able to pass on his valuable knowledge to every player he comes into contact with."

Yorkshire finish the 2015 campaign this week with a Championship match against relegation-threatened Sussex at Headingley, starting today.

England trio Jonny Bairstow, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid are all available ahead of next month's series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, while Ryan Sidebottom returns after being rested at Hampshire last week.

Before play, both teams will mark the recent passing of Brian Close with a minute's applause.
