ANDREW Gale has been outstanding for us this year.

He and Jack Leaning batted beautifully to set up our run chase of 304 against Hampshire on Thursday before Tim Bresnan and Andrew Hodd contributed at the end.

You know what you're going to get with Galey. Year in year out, you know he's going to be consistent on and off the field.

And that's what you need from your captain. I don't think anybody expects any less and the lads follow him on the field.

We all know what happened last year. It was disgraceful how he was treated – but it's gone now and we can't do anything about it.

A lot of emphasis was placed on trying to win back the trophy for him and now we've won it he deserves to pick it up. He'll have done it three times by the end of next week and I'm sure he's enjoyed every minute of it.

After our first-innings bowling and batting against Hampshire, I didn't think we'd still be in the game. I thought we'd have been scrapping.

But the rain afforded us an opportunity to be in the driving seat. Hampshire's situation in the league gave them no other choice but to set up a run chase and we were ruthless when it came down to the crunch.

We go into Tuesday's final match against Sussex at Headingley chasing a couple more records – and I'd also love to end the season with a century, a second of the year.

In the second half of the season, I feel like I've played the red ball really nicely. That hundred is the one thing missing, though.

If I can finish off with one next week, I can go away from the season with it having been an okay one before having a bit of time off in the winter.
