CHAMPIONS Yorkshire are pressing ahead in their bid for victory over Middlesex at Lord’s.

Andrew Gale’s side have enjoyed a dominant opening day, with them reaching tea at 129-3 in reply to Middlesex’s 106 all out, including 5-18 from Ryan Sidebottom and 4-30 from Tim Bresnan.

Middlesex were bowled out 30 minutes into the afternoon before Toby Roland-Jones trapped Adam Lyth and Gary Ballance lbw, leaving Yorkshire at 51-2 in the 12th over.

Confirmation of Yorkshire retaining their LV= County Championship Division One title came at 3.10pm when Notts were bowled out for 204 by Durham at Trent Bridge, with mooted celebrations coming from the visiting dressing room and captain Gale out in the middle.

Gale, dropped on 44 in the gully, and Alex Lees shared 78 inside 18 overs for the third wicket before Lees was trapped lbw by Paul Stirling to signal an early tea with 28.3 overs bowled.

Gale will resume after tea on 54.
