WE MAY only need five points from three games to retain our LV= County Championship title ahead of tomorrow's match against Middlesex at Lord's but we want to set down a benchmark for next season.

We'd like to go for record points and go the season unbeaten. I don't think anybody would begrudge us that, given the cricket we've played this year and the manner in which we've won matches.

We've got a job to do at Middlesex first and if we are lucky enough to have won it with two games left, we don't want to let up. We want to be dominant.

Middlesex are a dangerous side with a few wins under their belts in the last few games. Hopefully we can play some good cricket, get a result and then celebrate. London's not bad for a night out!

I scored my first Championship hundred at Lord's a couple of seasons ago and I hope the 'home of cricket' brings out the best in me again because I'd love to add to my only hundred this year against Notts.

We were bitterly disappointed to lose the Royal London Cup semi-final against Gloucestershire on Sunday, especially after starting so well.

Adam Lyth played beautifully for 96. Although I shared a century stand with Adam, I struggled to get going and the pitch wasn't as easy to bat on as he made it look. That in mind, we got ourselves into a good position and were looking at over 300.

If you get over 300 in a semi-final, you should be in a very good position. Scoreboard pressure comes into it, you build a few dots and they have to play in a more aggressive manner.

Yes, we're disappointed, but I can't fault the lads in this competition. Sometimes it's not your day – and that wasn't.

The young seamers, Matt Fisher and Will Rhodes, did well; there's Karl Carver as well. Hopefully they'll be better for their experiences and come back wiser.

We're trying to build a base for some success. I'm sure we're close to some really exciting things and I'm looking forward to next year.

In terms of the limited-overs captaincy, I'm not sure how that's going to go for next year. I've always enjoyed the captaincy and if they think I'm the best man for the job, I'll enjoy that responsibility and I'll take it on.

"I've got a good response from the lads and hopefully we can build a successful one-day side. But if they chose someone else to do it, then that's no issue. I just want to play for Yorkshire and score big runs.
