ADIL RASHID believes Ashes success can be achieved if England’s Test team adopt the attacking approach which served their limited overs side so well against New Zealand recently.

The Bradfordian leg-spinner has been called up to England’s 13-man squad for next week’s first Test at Cardiff alongside Moeen Ali on the back of a memorable season and a half.

He was the leading English spinner in Division One last season with 46 wickets on the way to Yorkshire’s LV= County Championship title success and impressed in one-day and Twenty20 international cricket against the Kiwis last month.

Rashid took four wickets in the White Rose side’s win over Durham yesterday, and found out of his call-up immediately after the match was completed.

"I think our chances are quite high,” said the 27-year-old.

“If we can stick to what we did in the one-day series, try to be attacking with the bat and ball and take the positive options, I think we'll go a long way.

“It's always a dream to play Test cricket for any youngster, especially to be part of an Ashes squad. I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully I can do well if selected.

“I'll just look to do what I do for Yorkshire. I will have the same mindset.

“Over the past couple of years, I think I've developed nicely, and this year I've concentrated on bowling a lot more variations and being attacking. As a result, I feel I'm bowling well.”

Rashid is the only member of England’s 13 who did not travel to Spain at the weekend on the bonding trip to get to know new coach Trevor Bayliss.

"I was just told by Paul Farbrace to come here to Durham and get some overs under my belt and see what happened,” he explained.
