YORKSHIRE left paceman Liam Plunkett out of their County Championship encounter with Hampshire following a breach of the club’s code of discipline.
The England seamer failed to attend Saturday’s official photocall and final training session, and will now play for the second XI in a friendly in Kent. Will Rhodes retains his place in the first team.
“I am very disappointed with Liam,” Yorkshire’s head coach Jason Gillespie said.
“He knows he has crossed the line and he will pay the price of missing out on selection for this game. Liam has apologised and we have accepted his apology.”
Speculation remains that Gillespie could leave Yorkshire to replace Peter Moores as coach of England, but neither he nor the club could comment on reports, though it is understood the contract he signed to coach Big Bash outfit Adelaide Strikers did contain an international job release clause.
