THE quality of Yorkshire’s Academy production line is storing up a selection headache for the county’s hierarchy.
The reigning county champions have six players in the Caribbean with England, but youngsters Matt Fisher, Will Rhodes, Jack Leaning and Alex Lees have all stepped up.
Sheriff Hutton Bridge teenager Fisher impressed on his debut in the drawn game at Nottinghamshire, as did Stamford Bridge all-rounder Rhodes.
York batsman Leaning and Lees scored centuries at Trent Bridge and captain Andrew Gale heaped praise on the quartet as they help carry the team through a testing period.
“We pride ourselves on the Academy and giving our own lads a chance,” said Gale. “I’m sure there’ll be a few headaches when players come back.
“Alex has had a great start and Matthew looked like he’d been around for ten years. Jack is finding his feet now in first-class cricket. He’s getting confidence with every game at this level. Will is a good all-round package - a good guy to have around.”
