Yorkshire’s cricketers still have hopes that they could achieve what would be a remarkable victory after claiming two vital Nottinghamshire wickets in the morning session of the LV= Division One game at Trent Bridge.
Resuming on 74-3, the home batsmen had taken their side to 156-5 at lunch with Samit Patel on 36 not out and Riki Wessels unbeaten on eight. That gave Nottinghamshire a lead of just 143 and a couple of early wickets this afternoon could set up a tense finish.
The Yorkshire successes were achieved by Steve Patterson, who had Will Gidman caught by Andrew Hodd for 13, and Will Rhodes, who tempted James Taylor to hook him straight to substitute fielder Moin Ashraf at long leg when he had made 35.
That left the home side on 134-5 but Patel and Wessels saw their side safely to lunch, although there is plenty of work to be done to save the game.
