Alex Lees has celebrated being capped by Yorkshire this morning with an unbeaten half-century before lunch on day one against Somerset at Headingley.

The left-handed opener reached 50 off 84 balls with eight fours as the champions, having elected to bat first, reached lunch at 112-3 from 31 overs.

Adam Lyth, Gary Ballance and captain Joe Root have all fallen. Lyth and Ballance edged Alfonso Thomas to first and second slip respectively before Root was bowled off an inside edge by Jamie Overton.

Root and Lees had shared 63 for the third wicket to advance the score from 32-2. Lees will resume this afternoon on 53 with Jonny Bairstow for company on one.
