Former Yorkshire left-arm spinner Gary Keedy claimed two wickets but was unable to prevent his former county progressing towards a dominant first innings total in their crunch match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Keedy dismissed Gary Ballance and Jack Leaning but Yorkshire, who resumed the second morning on 319 for four, progressed to 400 for six at lunch as they attempt to secure the victory that would clinch their first championship since 2001.

Ballance, watched by National Selector James Whitaker, was unable to build on his overnight 82 and took 18 overs to add 17 runs before falling one short of three figures when he shuffled across his crease and fell lbw for 99.

Keedy claimed his second wicket of the morning six overs later when Leaning, who had out-scored Ballance during the early stages of the morning session, fell for 42 when he also fell lbw to a sharply-turning delivery.

Leaning had earlier secured Yorkshire’s fourth batting bonus point, cutting Keedy to reach the landmark. Nottinghamshire need to record three more points than their opponents in this match to remain in the title race while Yorkshire need victory to guarantee the championship.
