Tadcaster Magnet dismiss Dringhouses for 57 (From York Press)

Tadcaster Magnet recorded their third Hunters York and District Senior Cricket League division two win with consummate ease after dismissing visiting Dringhouses for 57.

The St Helen’s Road men found themselves shackled by the bowling of Paul Clark, who returned 6-24, and Paul Downey, who supported well with 3-28. Rich Cattle then made an unbeaten 28 as Magnet won by eight wickets.

On a day of low scores, 20 wickets fell at Londesborough Park for only 174 runs as the hosts defeated York III by eight runs.

For Park, John Williamson’s 22 proved to be decisive in a total of 91 all out as Simon Hall claimed 3-20.

York’s Sam Beales then provided the game’s best batting with an innings of 48 but to no avail. His side seemed well on course for victory at 50-2 but Charlie Rook then grabbed 5-13 and, with Paul Youngman claiming 3-24, the York side succumbed to 83 all out.

There was a thriller at Thorp Arch, where the home side emerged with a three-run victory over Hornsea in one of the day’s higher scoring games.

Arch’s hero was skipper Ben Bartlett. He made 36 in a 72-run stand for the fifth wicket with Guy Whatmore (26) to rescue his team from being 3-4 and then he followed with a decisive 4-36 off 12 overs. His brother Will contributed 39 to the Arch’s 170 all out as Richard Medforth took 4-40 in 14.1 overs.

Hornsea skipper Ben Wallis was a most unfortunate loser as a host of partners perished to leave him stranded on 77 not out when the innings ended on 167.

The game at Beverley resulted in the home team beating Clifton Alliance.

John Hetherton made 23 in the Alliance total of 126-9 before John Vodden struck 66 to see Beverley home by three wickets. Andy Parkinson took 3-25 for the visitors.

Whitkirk vacated bottom place when they had an advantage draw over Hull II who managed to hang on with their last pair at the crease.

Within Whitkirk’s 154-9 there was some fine willow-waving by Mark Murphy, with 35, and Sam Parker, who was unbeaten with 56. For Hull, Simon Powdrell took 3-70 and Jonathon Coote 3-41.

In reply, Paul Mudd made 42 but Sam Bateman was in control as he claimed 5-28 which included the day’s third hat-trick and left Hull teetering on the edge of defeat at 112-9.
